Outside The Circle is a middle-grade fiction children’s chapter book. I wrote this book with my eight-year old-daughter. The emphasis was on fears kids have at school, and this one centered around recess; one of the few times in the day where a kid can feel completely outnumbered.

Many subjects that are touched upon in this book include bullying, courage, friendship, fear, communication, reading directions, problem-solving, teamwork, the importance of family, understanding the needs of the elderly, cultural diversity, and alternative energy!

That may sound like a lot to put in a book, but if you really think about how much information a child observes in just a year, its not really that shocking at all. This book was an inspiration for me, because it allowed me to really bond with my daughter and see the world through her eyes.

This is a great read for kids ages 7-10 and it’s a great way for parents to open the lines of communication with their child about the things they might be experiencing at school.

 5 Star Reviews*****

My book came in today – I already read it! It is amazing! If you’re a teacher, or have kids grades 2 through middle school they would love this book! (As a parent or teacher, you can read it to the younger children) The book is well written and covers many good topics from bullying, friendship, bravery, community service, and overcoming challenges. All things our students and children need at this age and in this time. The book hooks the reader and draws you in until the last page with its touching story. Buy your copy today! I will be sharing with my school’s principal tomorrow!!!”- K. Brown

I purchased this book for my daughter who is 8 and in third grade. She read some of it to me, and I read some to her, combined it took us under a week to finish. Outside the Cirlcle is so well written she had no trouble reading by herself and it gave us several great topics to discuss, like bullying, friendship and helping others. The story flows beautifully, and the characters are realistic and so likeable. I work in an elementary school and plan on passing it around to the entire second and third grade for the teachers to read to their students.”- Mommy411

As a mother of three kids and a former teacher I loved this book. I thought the character of Emma was someone all the kids can feel connected too. My boys ages 8 and 9 really liked it. They cheered Emma on in her journey and they loved the illustration on the book. I think Arlene Lagos and her daughter are a winning team and this book should be available in all school libraries. If you have not purchased it do it today. The journey shy Emma takes you through will be amazing.”- Sylvia Stein
